Jonathon

Jonathon has been working in Marron’s Pharmacy since 2005. He graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons with a B.Sc Pharmacy in 2009. He then completed his MPharm in 2010 and entered the register of Pharmacists in December 2010. Jonathon has won 4 National Pharmacy Awards since becoming a pharmacist.

  • GSK Health Promotion Pharmacist of the Year 2014
  • Actavis Business Development(Independent) Pharmacy of the Year 2014
  • Patient Nominated Pharmacist of the Year 2014 (His favourite)
  • Actavis Education & Mentoring Bursary Winner 2017

He is a father of three small children, Evie, James and Jasper. His lovely wife, Edwina, is a senior clinical hospital pharmacist and works in Tallaght Hospital where she is one of the first prescribing pharmacists in Ireland.

Jonathon also has degrees in Applied Mathematics and Experimental Physics. Physics is the understanding of why all things work and this curiousity feeds Jonathon’s appetite to help his patients best understand their illnesses through dialogue, pictures and the suite of services he has designed.

Jonathon also has been on blood pressure medicines since the age of 28. He knows only too well that most diseases are not necessarily age related, although many are. Due to his own circumstances, he wants to open up screening services to anyone interested in their health. He believes everyone should know his or her baseline results so that you can narrow down when something became a problem. Imagine someone finds out for the first time that they have high cholesterol or high blood pressure at the age of 50, there is a difference when this started because damage may be occurring and one years worth of damage is obviously not a concern against 30 years worth of damage.

Jonathon has a strong interest in all things medical and especially loves puzzles. If you have say a skin condition that you can’t get to the bottom of or if you’ve been struggling with your weight or you’re struggling with your asthma, he’s your man.

Jonathon loves educating also and has lectured to other pharmacists on health care services and health topics. He has lectured for Pfizer, Abbvie, GSK, the Asthma Society of Ireland and Promed as well as lecturing for and working with bigger chain pharmacies.

Jonathon has judged the Pharmacy Awards and been one of the IPN Dynamic 100 people in Pharmacy every year since 2014.

Jonathon freely gives his mobile to his patients and is available through text, WhatsApp, Viber, email and LinkedIn for queries.

Des

Des graduated from the School of Pharmacy on Shrewsbury Road following completion of his pharmacy education in 1959. He entered the register of Pharmacists in May 1959. In 2015, Des won a National Pharmacy Award for the Contribution to their Community by a Pharmacist.

Des has worked seven days a week for almost 60 years rarely taking holidays. You will always find Des ready to sing a song or have a giggle with you. Now 83, Des intends to retire from the register of pharmacists on 31st of December 2017. He will continue to work in the pharmacy for as long as he can and we are all delighted to have him here as he makes every day better.

Des’s contributions to Clane are worthy of a book but we’ll give a brief synopsis here. In 1996, he became the current Lord Mayor of Clane, an honorary position he acquired after successfully topping a fund raising campaign for a local enterprise centre which helps SME’s become established and is available for advice.

His favourite thing is singing and he sings in Clane church since he was 13 years old. He started by ‘pumping the organ’ during mass because air had to be manually pumped by hand unlike today where this is achieved because of electricity. While doing this, he learned all the hymnes and soon found himself in the choir. In 2008, he received a Benemerenti medal from the Pope for all his years of service singing in the church. He frequently sings from the front of the church as well as on Sundays.

Des is a keen GAA man and was a handy footballer, winning many medals with Clane as well as a Leinster Senior Football medal. Hissporting interests did not stop at GAA and he is a founder member of some sports clubs established in Clane from the Clane Lawn Tennis club to the Badminton Club.

He is a founder member of Clane Musical Drama Society and has

performed in many shows over the years. His daughter, Edel now supports and performs in many of the productions. The pharmacy always supports these shows by selling the tickets in the pharmacy.

Des has also been chairman of Clane Hospital and a member of Clane Local Development Ltd. He was heavily involved in the charity KARE and still carol sings every Christmas to raise funds.

Des is a father of seven children, grandfather to the twenty-three children and great-grandfather to four children. He was married to Kathleen for over 50 years before her death in November 2011.

Genevieve

Genevieve has been working in Marron’s Pharmacy since 1998. Starting off on Saturdays, Genevieve has moved from shop assistant to develop an interest in patient health.

Genevieve graduated as a dental nurse from the Trinity College Dublin Dental School in 2009, graduating with a diploma in dental nursing with distinction.

After this, her pharmacy calling really kicked in and she undertook and qualified at the top of her class in the Pharmacy Technician’s course in D.I.T., Cathal Brugha Street, graduating with a Higher Certificate in Pharmacy Technician with distinction in 2011.

The Royal College of Surgeons started to accept pharmacy technicians from September 2011. There was one stumbling block; she needed honours Leaving Certificate science results so she re-sat her Leaving Cert achieving these necessary grades.

She graduated from the RCSI with a B.Sc (Pharmacy) in 2016. She commenced her MPharm internship placement with Tallaght hospital shortly afterwards and has now successfully completed that placement. She will enter the register of pharmacists in December 2017 joining our team of clinical pharmacists.

Her areas of interests include Women’s Health, Travel Health and Cardiovascular Disease.

David

David joined Marron’s Pharmacy in 2012 during year two of his studies in Dublin Institute of Technology, Cathal Brugha Street. He qualified from D.I.T. with a Higher Certificate in Pharmacy Technician in 2013.

David undertook all of his placement work in Marron’s whilst studying at D.I.T.

He then completed further study and acquired a B.Sc (Clinical Pharmacy Practice) following completion of a course in Athlone Institute of Technology in 2014.

David’s advanced clinical course furthered his interest in an expanded technician’s role and he is very competent in taking blood pressure, running the weight management clinic if a pharmacist is not available, demonstrating inhaler technique or talking about a patient’s complex prescription.

David’s main areas of interest are First Aid, Medication Adherence and advancing the role of the Pharmacy Technician.

Máire

Máire has over 50 years worth of memories in the pharmacy. As a small girl, she remembers emptying orders, running errands and cleaning shelves. The second born child of the seven Marron children and always her ‘daddy’s girl’, wherever Des was, Máire wanted to be too. From the age of 10, she worked every school holiday, Saturdays and Sundays with Des.

For the past 30 years, she has managed the front of shop. She was delighted to share this responsibility with sister Edel since 1995.

Married to her husband, Joe since 1981, she is mother to four children and Mamó to three grandchildren. Her eldest children, Jonathon and Genevieve are both pharmacists at Marron’s Pharmacy.

Máire received no formal pharmacy education but with over 30 years hands on experience in the dispensary and on the front counter, her knowledge of health and her patients is amazing.

In 2013, Máire was diagnosed with breast cancer. Under the care of a great team in St. James’ Hospital, she has made a wonderful recovery. She is forever grateful to her family and friends, as well as all the love and support from the Clane community she received to help her through this difficult time. Edel decided to run a fundraiser to say thank you to the BreastCare Department in S.J.H, and this has become our now annual coffee morning fundraiser.

Máire loves the village of Clane, its surrounding localities and the people that Marron’s looks after. You will always find Máire with a smile on her face and willing to go the extra step for every patient, even if the efforts are uneconomical to the business.

Máire has an ever-ready shoulder if someone ever needs support or comfort.

Edel

Edel joined the family business in January 1995, initially only to cover maternity leave for her sister Máire.

Edel is the main cosmetic and fragrance buyer as well as the primary in-store merchandising/window dressing manager. She was won many National and local awards for her skills in this remit. One of her favourites was winning the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open ‘Best Dressed Building’ award which she won in 2016.

Edel prides herself on the indepth knowledge she possesses with regard to all in store brands stocked at Marron’s. She has completed skincare and cosmetic schools for all our brands and with years of knowledge behind her, she’s your bet to have you looking or feeling the best.

Edel also ‘Nose’ perfumes and aftershaves like no one else. If you have forgotten what fragrance is your loved ones favourite, she will help you get it right with a few simple questions.

Outside of Marron’s, Edel is an accomplished singer and just like her father Des has performed on stage in musicals and dramas, often in the leading role. She won an Association of Irish Musicals award for best actress in 2000 and also received a nomination for best overall performer in the same year. Locally, she loves being asked to judge talent competitions such as Strictly, Lip-sync Battles or X-Factor.

Edel is a mum, married to Eamon and has 3 beautiful daughters, Sarah, Emily and Isabelle.

Edel’s favourite part of her job is making women feel fabulous about themselves and giving them hints and tips on everything from the perfect lipstick shade to their fake tan. A perk of her job is she gets to try every product so she really knows about what you are asking about. You can not beat that advice and she doesn’t stock anything she would not wear herself.

Jordan

Jordan joined Marron’s Pharmacy in 2008 as a Saturday job while in 5th Year of Newbridge College. Unsure of what career direction to take, she got some experience in the pharmacy retail sector but quickly discovered her penchant for beauty and make-up.

Jordan graduated from the Zoë Clark make-up school with an ITEC Certificate in make-up in 2011. At the same time, Jordan achieved an ITEC Certificate in Business and Marketing in 2011 also. She subsequently completed the ITEC Unit 10 Make-Up Certificate in beauty make-up in 2013 and then received her ITEC Certificate in Fashion, Theatrical & Media make-up in 2015.

Jordan is fully trained with the latest skills from Marron’s favourite brands of Clarins, La Roche Posay, Vichy and Nuxe. She loves to help customers and patients solve tricky skin problems such as acne, rosacea and dermatitis. More importantly, she can help such people find the makeup and skincare that best suits their skin, drawing from all of her qualifications to achieve this.

Jordan is also qualified to assist patients with their minor ailments having completed the Medicines Counter Assistants course in 2014.

She most enjoys creating mini-events for customers to win free make-overs or a skincare review.

If you have a special event coming up and you want to look and feel your best, then Jordan will help you achieve this.

Josie

Josie joined the team in Marron’s in June 2017.

In 2013, Josie decided on a career change having spent 14 years working in Clongowes Wood College. She undertook 4 weeks work experience in Marron’s and was hooked on pharmacy and retail.

Since 2013, Josie has cut her pharmacy teeth working in many Kildare-area pharmacies.

She loves interacting and working with the customers. She completed the Medicines Counter Assistant course and is capable of helping anyone get through his or her minor ailment as well as being a fountain of knowledge if you are looking for something nice.
